Background

Over the years, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has confiscated a considerable number of specimens of endangered species during law enforcement action. Some of these specimens are suitable for education purpose. AFCD would like to make full use of these specimens by donating them to schools.

 

The Collection

The collection comprises a wide range of specimens such as Elephant tusks, worked ivory, tooth of hippopotamus, stuffed or dry animal specimens, leather products, turtle plastron, blue coral products and giant clams, etc.

 

Benefits to the students

  • Enhance knowledge on endangered species.

  • Increase awareness about conservation and protection of endangered species.

  • Understand how our natural resources are being over-exploited.

  • Reflect on personal choice of goods/food and promote eco-friendly lifestyle.

 

Eligibility

  • The program is for local schools registered under the Education Bureau, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region.
  • The school shall have suitable facilities with adequate security measures for storing or displaying the specimens for education purpose.

  • The school shall keep the donated specimens subject to the conditions stipulated on the Exemption Certificate to be issued to the school under the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance, Cap. 586.


Procedure

  • Any eligible school may indicate your interest by completing the following form.

  • We will make arrangement for a school visit to recommend suitable security measures and work out the list of donation items with the school (Remarks: availability of individual items is subject to stocks on hand).
